Elon Musk backed Starlink has registered its business in India on Monday. It is planning to launch internet services in the country, as per the company documents filed with the government. Starlink is the satellite internet division of billionaire Elon Musk’s rocket company SpaceX.

Elon Musk’s Starlink to apply for commercial license in India by Jan 31, 2022. SpaceX’s satellite broadband arm Starlink aims to start broadband services in India from December 2022, with 2 lakh active terminals subject to permission from the government. “Pleased to share that SpaceX now has a 100 per cent owned subsidiary in India.

Elon Musk-led Starlink’s broadband from-space service is estimated to cost around Rs 1.58 lakh (including local taxes/levies) in India per user terminal in the first year, and around Rs 1.15 lakh from the second year onwards, the company’s India head Sanjay Bhargava has said.

Elon Musk-backed Starlink’s satellite broadband service will be offered in India at ₹1,58,000 in the first year. This will include end-user equipment for ₹37,400 and ₹7,425 per month for the service.

So far, in our tests, Starlink is definitely improving. While dropouts are still too frequent, speeds have steadily picked up. Initially, we saw top download rates of just under 90 Mbps. As of April 12, those numbers more than doubled with top download speeds of 200 Mbps.

Instead of tiered plans, SpaceX is offering a single Starlink internet plan for everyone, and it’s entirely unlimited like Viasat. Starlink Internet’s $99 monthly cost places them squarely in the affordable end of satellite internet pricing. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted Friday that the company’s Starlink satellite internet network would come out of its open beta phase next month. That’s two months later than the August date Musk gave at Mobile World Congress, when he also said he expected the service to have “possibly over 500,000 users within 12 months.”
